Basic Analytics

Every form on SmarterForm comes with built-in analytics to help you understand how your form is performing. All analytics features are available on the Free plan.

Accessing Analytics

To view your form's analytics:

• Open your form in the Form Builder
• Click the Analytics tab in the left sidebar
• Your metrics will load automatically

Key Metrics

SmarterForm tracks the following metrics for every published form:

Views

The number of times your form was loaded. Each unique visitor is counted once per 30-minute window to avoid inflating numbers from page refreshes.

Starts

The number of people who began filling out your form (interacted with at least one question). This helps you understand how many visitors are actually engaging with your form.

Submissions

The number of completed responses. This is the most important metric—it tells you how many people finished and submitted your form.

Completion Rate

The percentage of starts that became submissions. Formula: (Submissions / Starts) × 100

A healthy completion rate is typically 60-80%. If yours is lower, consider:

• Reducing the number of questions
• Making questions clearer
• Removing unnecessary required fields
• Improving your form's design and readability

Average Completion Time

The average time it takes for someone to complete your form. This metric is capped at 12 hours to avoid skewing data from people who leave forms open for extended periods.

If your average time seems high, your form might be too long or too complex.

Trends Over Time

The Analytics tab includes a chart showing your form's performance over time. You can see:

• Daily views, starts, and submissions
• Trends to identify patterns (e.g., higher traffic on weekdays)
• Spikes in activity after promotions or campaigns

All data is bucketed by day in UTC timezone.

Question-by-Question Breakdown

Scroll down in the Analytics tab to see aggregated data for each question:

• Multiple Choice: See how many people selected each option
• Yes/No: View the split between yes and no answers
• Rating: See the distribution of ratings
• Text fields: View individual answers in the Response Explorer

Response List

Click "View all responses" to see a list of individual submissions.

• Each row represents one completed submission
• Click any response to view all answers in detail
• Responses are sorted by submission time (newest first)
• You can export responses to CSV (see CSV Export)

Privacy & Data Handling

All response data is stored securely and is only accessible by you (the form owner). Respondents' information is never shared or sold.

AI Insights (Pro)

PRO accounts can generate AI-powered insights from open-text responses. The system automatically analyzes patterns, sentiments, and key themes across your submissions.

Tips for Better Analytics

• Set up tracking early: Publish your form before sharing it widely so you can track all responses from day one.
• Monitor completion rate: If it drops below 50%, investigate what might be causing drop-offs.
• Review question breakdown: If everyone is selecting the same multiple choice option, you might need to revise the question.
• Export regularly: Download CSV exports periodically as a backup.
