Quick Start Guide

Get up and running with SmarterForm in minutes. This guide will walk you through creating, publishing, and sharing your first form.

1. Create your free account

Head to /signup and create your free account. You'll get unlimited forms and responses on the Free plan—no credit card required.

2. Create your first form

Once you're signed in, you'll land on your Dashboard. Click the "Create new form" button to get started.

    Choose how to start

    You have two options:

    • Blank: Start from scratch with an empty form.
    • Template: Pick a pre-built template for onboarding, lead capture, feedback, and more.

    Name your form (optional)

    Give your form a descriptive name like "Contact Form" or "User Feedback Survey". You can always change this later.

    Select a Space (optional)

    If you've created Spaces to organize your forms, select one here. Otherwise, your form will live in your default workspace.

Pro Tip

Starting with a template is the fastest way to build a form. Browse our templates library to find a starting point that matches your use case.

3. Build your form

Now you're in the Form Builder. This is where you'll add questions, customize design, and configure settings.

Add questions

    Open the Build tab

    The left sidebar has multiple tabs. Make sure you're on the Build tab.

    Drag blocks onto the canvas

    Scroll through the available question types (Short Text, Long Text, Email, Yes/No, etc.) and drag them onto your canvas. You can also click a block to add it instantly.

    Customize each question

    Click any question to open its settings panel. Here you can:

    • Edit the question text
    • Add a description or helper text
    • Mark it as required or optional
    • Configure validation rules (for Email, Website, etc.)

Customize design

Switch to the Design tab to change how your form looks:

  • Theme: Choose from Default (Free) or premium themes like Conversational, Minimal, or Soft (Pro).
  • Background: Set a color, choose from preset images, or upload your own (Pro).
  • Branding: Remove SmarterForm branding on Pro plans.

4. Publish your form

Once you're happy with your form, it's time to publish it:

    Click the Share button

    In the top-right corner of the Builder, click Share.

    Publish your form

    Toggle the Published switch to make your form live. You'll see a public URL appear.

    Copy and share your link

    Copy the share link and send it to your audience. Your form is now live at /f/[formId] or /f/s/[slug] if you set a custom slug.

You're live!

Your form is now published and ready to collect responses. Share the link via email, social media, or embed it on your website.

5. View responses

As people fill out your form, you can view responses in real-time:

  • Go back to your Dashboard and click on your form.
  • Switch to the Analytics tab to see views, starts, submissions, and completion rates.
  • Click View all responses to see individual submissions.
  • Export responses to CSV (up to 500 most recent submissions).
